Pattern plate making in İzmir

We mount casting patterns on a plate that suits your foundry’s moulding setup. Aluminium patterns and plates are made with CAD/CAM and CNC machining.

What a pattern plate is

A pattern plate is moulding equipment that holds a casting pattern, or several patterns, in a fixed position on a plate. The plate keeps the pattern in the same place at every moulding, so the foundry can prepare moulds in a repeatable way. The two-up plate in our gallery is one of the plate jobs made in the workshop.

Moldek makes aluminium patterns and plates in İzmir. Resin, epoxy or aluminium for the patterns on the plate is considered according to quantity and the life expected from the equipment.

What we pay attention to

  • Fit with the foundry: The plate’s sizes and fixing details are set to the foundry’s moulding setup.
  • Parting face and layout: The pattern’s position on the plate, the parting face and any extra elements are agreed with the foundry.
  • Machining allowances: Allowances for faces that will be machined after casting are added to the pattern design at the start.
  • Checking: Which sizes will be checked at handover, and how, is agreed when we quote.

How the work proceeds

  1. Collect the conditions

We review the drawing or the sample, and the foundry’s plate and moulding conditions.

  2. CAD design

We prepare the pattern and the plate layout digitally, and show you the critical points for approval.

  3. CAM and CNC machining

A CAM program is prepared for the approved design, and the pattern and plate are machined.

  4. Check and handover

The plate is handed over after the agreed sizes are checked. If needed, we coordinate the casting with our partners.

Working with foundries

On pattern-plate work we also work with foundries directly. Moulding method, parting face and machining allowances are settled before the pattern design starts, and we agree at the outset who the quote is for and who speaks with the end customer. On an old plate, or one that has been repaired many times, we first look at its current condition and propose a replacement scope based on the sizes.

What to send for a quote

  • A drawing, a 3D file, or photos of the sample
  • The foundry’s plate sizes, fixing details and moulding conditions
  • How many patterns will sit on the plate, and the casting quantity
  • The casting material and a target date

Common questions

01 Can you put my existing pattern onto a plate?

We review the existing pattern and the plate conditions. If the pattern’s sizes are uncertain, we first make a digital model by 3D scanning and agree with you which sizes to trust.

02 Can a worn pattern plate be replaced?

Yes. We work on replacing worn patterns and moulds. We start by looking at the current condition, an accepted part if you have one, and the current drawing.

03 Do you make the plate for my foundry or for my own company?

Either is possible. When we work with a foundry directly, we agree at the start who the quote is for and who handles contact with the customer.

04 How are price and time decided?

From the plate size, the number of patterns, the material and the machining. We give the figures in the quote, after we have reviewed the part and the conditions.

05 Can you send the plate to another city in Türkiye?

Yes. Moldek is based in İzmir, and we can ship within Türkiye. How it is delivered is agreed when we quote.
