CNC machining and CAD/CAM in İzmir
We prepare a CAD model from a drawing or from 3D data, write the CAM program, and machine the part on a CNC machine. From design to machining, the work stays in one process.
One process from design to machining
On pattern and mould work, size depends on how well the digital model and the machining program are prepared. Moldek in İzmir runs CAD/CAM design and CNC machining in the same process. A change in the design goes straight into the machining program, and the information is not lost between suppliers.
We use CNC machining to make casting patterns, pattern plates and core boxes. We also consider machining-only requests, such as machining a part that was cast somewhere else.
Scope
- CAD from a drawing: A model suitable for production is prepared from a drawing, 3D data or a scan.
- CAM programming: A machining program is written for the approved model.
- CNC machining: Pattern, mould and part surfaces are machined on a CNC machine.
- Machining after casting: Faces and holes on a casting are machined to the drawing and checked.
Machining after casting
Before machining starts, we review the rough part’s sizes and the machining allowances against the drawing. We put the acceptance conditions for the rough part, and what happens if it does not meet them, in writing at the start. Shortcomings seen before machining are recorded, so it is possible to see at which stage a problem appeared. Whether the part suits the machines is assessed separately when we quote.
Drawings and revisions
Before machining, we confirm with you that the drawing we have is the current revision. We talk through the critical sizes, the tolerances and what you expect to be checked. For a part with no drawing, we can prepare a digital model by 3D scanning and write the CAM program from the approved model. The same design and machining setup we use for patterns and moulds is also used for machining-only work.
What to send for a quote
- The current drawing, with its revision, or a 3D file
- The material, the tolerances and what you expect to be checked
- Photos of the rough part, if this is machining after casting
- Quantity and a target date
Common questions
01 The casting was made elsewhere. Will you machine it only?
Yes. We also consider machining-only work. After we review the drawing, the material and photos of the rough part, we quote the machining and the checks.
02 What if the rough part is not to size?
Before the job starts, we put in writing how a rough part is accepted and what happens if it is not. Shortcomings found before machining are recorded.
03 I have no drawing. Can you prepare a CAD model?
Yes. We can build a digital model by measuring a sample or by 3D scanning it.
04 How are price and delivery time decided?
From the part’s size, material, tolerances, quantity and machining time. We give the figures after we have reviewed the drawing and the part.
05 Which file types can I send?
The quote form accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, PDF, STEP and STL. For larger files, contact us on WhatsApp.
