Core box making in İzmir

We make core boxes for the cores that form the internal cavities of your casting. The core box is planned together with the casting pattern so the two match.

What a core box is for

On a casting with an internal cavity, such as a housing, a cover or a pipe connection, the core forms that cavity. A core box — also called a core mould — is the mould in which the core is formed to the same size each time. The core box and the casting pattern have to be designed together so the core sits correctly in the mould.

Moldek in İzmir makes core boxes together with casting patterns. We prepare the design in CAD and machine it from a CAM program. When casting is required, we coordinate the process with partner foundries.

Material and design

  • Material: Resin, epoxy or aluminium, considered according to how many cores are needed, the foundry’s core-making method and the life expected from the box.
  • Match with the pattern: The areas where the core sits in the mould are designed together with the casting pattern.
  • Opening and use: The direction the box opens, and whether it is split, is planned so the core can be removed without damage.

How the work proceeds

  1. Settle the internal geometry

We establish the cavity sizes from a drawing, section information or a sample.

  2. Foundry conditions

We agree the core-making method, and how the core sits in the mould, with your foundry.

  3. CAD/CAM and CNC machining

We design the core box digitally and, after your approval, machine it.

  4. Check and handover

We check the agreed sizes and hand the box over with the casting pattern, or on its own.

Why plan the pattern and the core box together

If the casting pattern and the core box are made in different places, the areas where the core sits in the mould can fail to match. We therefore recommend designing both from the same digital model. If you only need the core box, we check the fit at the start from the existing pattern’s sizes or drawing. We look at replacing a worn core box in the same way.

What to send for a quote

  • A drawing or 3D file, especially the cavity and section information
  • Photos that show the internal area, if you have a sample
  • How many cores, the casting material and a target date
  • Your foundry’s core-making method and conditions, if you have them

Common questions

01 Are a core box and a core mould the same thing?

Yes. Both names describe the mould in which the core is formed. The wording can differ from one foundry to another.

02 Can I order only a core box?

Yes. You can take a single service. To match your existing casting pattern, we also need to review that pattern’s sizes or drawing.

03 How do you measure the cavity of a sample?

We measure or scan the surfaces we can reach. For internal regions we cannot reach, we need a drawing, section information, or sizes agreed with you.

04 What do price and delivery time depend on?

On the size of the core box, how many pieces it has, the material and the machining. We give the figures in the quote, after the review.

05 Can you replace an old core box?

Yes. We review the existing box, an accepted part if you have one, and the current drawing, agree the sizes to trust, and explain the replacement scope in the quote.

The next step for your part.

Send a photo, a drawing or the sample details, and we will decide the method and the scope together.
