3D scanning and reverse engineering in İzmir

We scan a physical part and turn it into a digital model. We use this when a part with no drawing has to be made again, when an old pattern is replaced, and when sizes are checked.

When 3D scanning is needed

If you have a sample but no drawing, a digital model of the part has to be prepared before it can be made again. The same need comes up when an old casting pattern, or one that has been repaired many times, is replaced; when you are not sure an old drawing is still current; and when a made part has to be checked against its sizes.

Moldek in İzmir carries out 3D scanning and reverse engineering together with casting-pattern, mould and CNC machining work. The digital model is used directly to make the pattern and the mould.

What we provide

  • A digital model from the part: A CAD model that can be used in production is prepared from the scanned surfaces.
  • Size and deviation checks: The part or pattern is compared with the digital model so the differences can be seen.
  • A digital record: A digital copy of an old mould or pattern can be kept for a later remake.

How the work proceeds

  1. First look

From photos and approximate sizes we review the part and identify the critical sizes and mounting faces.

  2. Scanning

We agree with you in advance how the part will be received for scanning and how it will be returned.

  3. Reverse engineering

We build a CAD model from the scan. Where there is wear or deformation, we agree with you which sizes to trust.

  4. Approval and what follows

The approved digital model is handed over, or it is used for the pattern, the mould and CNC machining.

From the scan to production

Scan data on its own is only a start. The value is in turning that data into a model that can be made. At Moldek the digital model can be turned, by the same team, into a casting pattern, a pattern plate, a core box or a CNC machining program. The size information is not lost in a handoff between suppliers.

What to send for a quote

  • Photos of the part from several angles, and approximate sizes
  • How long the part can be away from you
  • An old drawing, an accepted part, or measurement results, if you have them
  • The purpose: make it again, replace a pattern, check sizes, or keep a record

Common questions

01 I have only one sample. If I send it, will my production stop?

We can make a first review from photos and approximate sizes. When a physical inspection is needed, we agree in advance how the part is received and returned. A photo on its own may not be enough to approve production.

02 Is the scanned model ready for production as it is?

A scan shows the part as it is today. If the part is worn or has been repaired, we agree with your technical team which sizes to trust, so old errors are not carried into the new model.

03 Can I order only the scan and the digital model?

Yes. You can take that single service, or support from the scan through to the pattern, the mould and machining. Say which file format you need when we quote.

04 What does the cost depend on?

On the size and complexity of the part, and on the output you need. We do not give a figure before we have reviewed the part.

05 Can I send a part to be scanned from outside İzmir?

Yes. We first review the photos, then agree with you how the part is sent, received and returned.

The next step for your part.

Send a photo, a drawing or the sample details, and we will decide the method and the scope together.
