Casting pattern making in İzmir
From a sample, a drawing or a 3D file, we make resin, epoxy and aluminium casting patterns. We choose the material with you according to quantity, the casting method and the life expected from the pattern.
Why the casting pattern matters
The casting pattern is the main piece of equipment that forms the cavity the metal fills. The foundry builds the mould on the pattern, so the pattern’s sizes, parting face and machining allowances directly affect the part that comes out of the casting. Until the pattern is ready, a foundry often cannot settle the price or the production plan either.
At Moldek in İzmir we make casting patterns that can stand up to series casting and hold their size. We carry out the 3D scanning, CAD/CAM and CNC machining in our own process.
Material choices
- Resin and epoxy: Relatively easy to shape and, when needed, to correct. Considered for a first batch, a trial, or a part whose design is not final yet.
- Aluminium: More resistant to wear. Preferred when repeat moulding has to hold size over a long run.
Which material fits depends on the quantity, the foundry’s moulding method and the life expected from the pattern. We explain the recommendation in the quote, after we have reviewed the part.
How the work proceeds
Review the part and the need
We look at your photo, drawing or 3D file together with the sizes, material and quantity.
Settle the casting conditions
Before the pattern design, we talk with you or your foundry about the moulding method, the parting face and the machining allowances.
Digital model and CNC machining
If needed we scan the part, prepare the CAD model, write the CAM program and machine the pattern.
Check and handover
We hand over the pattern after it has been checked against the agreed sizes. It can be shipped within Türkiye.
Why we keep it in one process
When measuring, the digital model, the CAM program and CNC machining stay with one team, a change requested by the foundry can be put into the pattern without the information being lost between suppliers. From our workshop in İzmir we can ship within Türkiye. You can order the pattern only, or ask for support from the scan through to machining after casting.
What to send for a quote
- Photos of the part from several angles, and a drawing or 3D file if you have one
- Approximate sizes, and the casting material if you know it
- How many castings, and a target date
- Your foundry’s moulding and machining-allowance conditions, if you have them
Common questions
01 Can you make a casting pattern if I have no drawing?
Yes. We measure a sample, or 3D scan it, build a digital model, and make the casting pattern from that model.
02 Does Moldek do the casting as well?
When casting is required we coordinate it with partner foundries. If you want, we also carry the work through CNC machining and delivery.
03 Should I choose resin, epoxy or aluminium?
The choice depends on quantity, the casting method and the life expected from the pattern. After we review the part, we recommend an option and say why.
04 Can I have a price and a delivery time straight away?
Price and time depend on the size of the part, the material, the quantity and the work required. We do not give figures before we have reviewed the part. Scope, cost and the delivery plan are settled in the quote.
05 Can you replace a worn casting pattern?
Yes. We look at the existing pattern, an accepted part if you have one, and the current drawing, agree which sizes to trust, and make the pattern again.
